What is DiceEye?

DiceEye is an AI-powered app that scans your rolled dice and calculates all possible scoring options for Yahtzee. Just point your iPhone camera at the dice, and the app will show you where you can score — no math required!

How do I use the AI dice scanner?

Simply hold your phone horizontally above the rolled dice (4–6 inches / 10–15 cm), point the camera at them, and let DiceEye do the rest. Tap the score you want to choose — that’s it!

What happens after I reach the scan limit in the free version?

The free version includes 7 AI scans per game and scorecard. After that, DiceEye automatically switches to manual dice input, so you can still complete your game.

If you want to keep using AI scanning without limits, you can unlock Unlimited AI Scans as an in-app purchase.

How many players does the app support?

DiceEye supports 1 to 5 players on a single iPhone. Great for both solo games and game nights with friends.

What kind of dice are compatible?

DiceEye works best with classic white six-sided dice with black pips. It has been tested with:

• Yahtzee Classic by Hasbro (product number 00950) – white dice only
• Yahtzee by Hasbro (C2406)
• Classic Yahtzee by Hasbro (1167)

Colored or reflective dice (like black or red ones, or those with white pips) may not scan correctly.

How can I improve scan accuracy?

To get the best results:

• Hold your phone horizontally and above the dice (4–6 inches / 10–15 cm).
• Ensure there's enough lighting (natural or artificial).
• Avoid reflective surfaces (like glass or metal) and busy backgrounds.
• Use white dice with black dots.

Does DiceEye work in low light?

Yes, the app is designed to work in low-light conditions, though very poor lighting may still affect scan accuracy. The app does not use the phone’s flashlight.

Can DiceEye sometimes misread the dice?

Yes, it's possible — although DiceEye uses advanced AI, recognition can occasionally be inaccurate due to factors like:

• Poor lighting conditions
• Reflective or patterned surfaces
• Dice that are partially out of frame or stacked
• Non-standard or colored dice

To improve accuracy, follow the scanning tips in this FAQ and make sure you're using compatible dice on a flat, non-reflective surface with good lighting.

Is the app free?

Yes! DiceEye is free to use, with a limit of 7 AI scans per game. You can still continue your game manually after that.

Want more? An optional "Unlimited AI Scans" upgrade is available as an in-app purchase.

If I purchase "Unlimited AI Scans", will my family members also have access?

Yes! "Unlimited AI Scans" is a one-time purchase, and if you have Family Sharing enabled on your Apple ID, it will be available to all members of your family group at no extra cost.

Make sure Family Sharing is set up correctly in your device settings, and all family members are part of the same Family Sharing group.

I think something's not working – what should I do?

If you're having trouble, try:

• Checking lighting and background conditions
• Ensuring you're using compatible dice
• Restarting the app
